about the author
Michelle Geery, born with gypsy blood running through her veins, found that traveling the world sated her wanderlust. She has journeyed to almost every state in the union and visited over fifteen countries, many of these receiving multiple return visits. With her travel experience she found that many cultures and customs shaped her writing style and enhanced her ability to convey once in a lifetime experiences. Her travels left her with a desire to share these newly uncovered destinations with others. As a former business owner she brought her unique understanding of small business management and marketing strategies to create a unique approach for each client’s needs.
Early in her twenty-six year writing career, Michelle worked as a corporate editor specializing in marketing materials for small businesses ranging from the highly technical electronic industry to the commercial construction trade. For over fifteen years she provided result-oriented copy for a variety of services including marketing brochures, web copy, newsletters, and online articles.
In 2003 she became the contributing editor for the monthly Getaway section at Orlando Leisure Magazine. For over thirty-two issues, she introduced readers to resorts, activities, restaurants, art galleries, and out of the way places throughout the State of Florida with her travel writing. Practically a local of Florida, her lifelong experiences of basking in the Florida sunlight and absorbing all the state had to offer gave her many hometown experiences and the ever elusive “local secrets” to draw from. Many of her hand selected getaways followed an itinerary of suggestions for the entire weekend. She developed a following with her articles on Romantic Getaways, Beach Escapes, Cruises, Family Fun, and more.
Michelle has never been a fan of “roughing it” and does not own a pair of hiking boots, but she is an avid proponent of the green movement. With her 30 years of traveling she developed unique ideas to leave a small carbon footprint and has many hints to pass on to the reader on how to travel Green.
Her unique ability to transform the reader from the pages of a magazine to an exotic location hundreds of miles away has brought many people to experience places they would never have visited prior to her articles. Nominated in 2004 to compete for a Southam Award for her article Sunrise Sunsail written about sailing the Florida Coast, she was told by the Kenton Smith Agency that her article was “one of the best articles describing the tranquility of sailing that had ever come across their desk.”
Michelle’s many travel and feature articles have appeared in multiple print and online venues including, Orlando Leisure Magazine, Central Florida Bride Magazine, and Orlando Home and Leisure Magazine and several online websites. She also appeared monthly on a fifteen minute live radio segment discussing her monthly getaways, edited and voiced various radio commercials, and she appeared on NBC News discussing childcare.
